It literally crumbled! Behind the plaster is what is called Lath, and that is what we are going to reinsulate, and drywall over. Its still in good shape! Next we have to remove all the old "keys" from between the lath slats to smooth the wall properly. This is what remains of the grey coat on the plaster, which was pressed in between the laths, like "keys" to hold the plaster on the wall. On top of the grey coat is a brown coat, then the finished smooth plaster that is painted.
