Moraine Composite
A moraine is a depression in the earth (or rock, in this case) created by boulders of glacier left behind in the glacial retreat. The depressions fill with water. Southeast Wisconsin is filled with moraines.

Plant Succession
After the glaciers retreat, lichen are the first to colonize the bare rocks. Then mosses, followed by nitrogen fixing plants. After that, grasses and flowers.
What the temperate rainforest lacks in biodiversity, it makes up for in biomass.

There were so many bald eagles hovering over the Icy Strait feeding ground, waiting to steal someone else's food, that I just pointed my camera at the sky and snapped.

Juvenile Breaching
Looks like fun to me. This whale played off in the distance for at least an hour. For most of that time, it splashed in front of a fishing boat. This was the closest it got to us.
