From the door
This is the view from the right of the front door. Our neighbors had a little balcony and a clothesline.
St Peter in Chains Piazza sign
This is the piazza sign for St Peter in Chains WHICH was closed and ... we never went back. In Italy, the backdoor is where you usually go in.
San Clemente Altar
Gold mosaic over the back sacristy area of San Clemente. I can never say the name of that church without thining of Nixon. Yeesh.
Close Up
It's great to see the large scale but I also like to get up close to things for another view. San Clemente had a million views.
San Clemente Side Altar
The Irish Dominicans preserve San Clemente. This painting of Madonna and Child can be found on the left side altar.
Carved in stone
San Clemente's center altar rises above the floor and is enclosed in marble. The decorations include mosaic and these carved symbols of the Order that built it.
Regina Sacratissimi Rosarii Ora
Dedicated to the holy mother and the rosary. Carved in marble.
Icon magic!
I can't even describe the beauty of this piece. Slavic Saints Cyril and Methodius were the dudes! They were the tagteam that invented the cyrillic alphabet. Cyril is buried at San Clemente.
Just lookin around...
You have to keep your eyes open when walking around in Rome, ancient walls just ... pop out of nowhere!
San Giovanni In Laterano
The front, where nobody ever enters. The magnitude of this Basilica is outdone by those of St Peter's and the littler known but fabulous Santa Maria Sopra Minerva.
Borghese Morning
Trekking across the Borghese Park to get to the Villa... it was early morning and the mist was still in the air.
