Back at the Ranch
This picture was taken 8-28-07. This is Joel, who is fixing our reader antenna stand at the NDSU Ag. Extension farm north of Dickinson, ND. The stand swings across the alley when cattle are passing through, but is swung back along the fence to allow trucks and other large vehicles to pass through.
A Futuristic Box
In my office, we have what looks like a giant metal box dropped into the middle of the room. If you look inside, however, you get an entirely different feel. It seems futuristic. The walls, floor, and ceiling are all covered with black, elongated pyramids: they are cones that absorb electromagnetic energy. The white squares are just a special type of styrofoam that fits over the top so that the chamber doesn't seem so dark. The outside is metal to block electromagnetic energy from entering. There are two antennas in this picture. The one on the right is a small dipole while the one on the left is called a "horn". The edges on the inside of the horn are actually pretty sharp.
Being inside there makes me feel like I'm on a different planet.
