ChrĂȘtien Point Plantation
A sugar plantation that was built in the 1830's. Managed by 4 generations of the ChrĂȘtien family. Had to undergo extensive restoration after decades of being used as a sharecropper's hayloft and barn, and a squat for vagrants.
New Orleans
The Big Easy. Or, as I prefer to call it, the Big Sleazy.
Delino Cemetary
This is an old cemetary that dates from the 19th century. A lot of members of my family are buried here (Delino is my mother's mother's maiden name) and we are responsible for keeping it up. Many of the older graves have been lost, though. Supposedly there's a map somewhere that tells you who is buried where, but no one will admit they have it.
The Myrtles
The Myrtles is considered to be the most-haunted house in Louisiana. Named for the trees that grow unnaturally tall around the house, it was once a sugar plantation. A slave named Chloe was punished for eavesdropping by having her ear cut off. In revenge, she baked a cake containing poisonous oleander and fed it to her master's wife and 2 small children. When they died, the other slaves held a trial at which Chloe was found guilty of murder; she was then hanged from one of the trees and her body was thrown in the river. Since then, there have been numerous sightings of the ghosts of Chloe, the children, and the wife.
Bancker Cemetary
Bancker is another cemetary in Vermilion Parish where many of my family members are buried. Unlike the Delino Cemetary, they still bury people here fairly often. And there is an outdoor chapel adjacent to the cemetary where services are held when the weather permits.
photography
This where I put my experiments in photography... once I've used up my flickr space for the month.
Saturday in the life
Life? What life?? I have no life. It's a life.
houses of worship
I'm an atheist who likes churches. Photos of local houses of worship.
